PM Oli urged to keep national interest during China visit

In the run-up to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s China visit scheduled for March 20, various political party leaders have suggested him to keep national interest and neighbour’s concerns in the centre while signing agreements with China.

Speaking at a face-to-face organised by the Reporters’ Club in the Capital on Monday, Nepali Congress central member Prakash Sharan Mahat said that PM should raise the issue of bringing investment into Nepal from China and granting duty-free facility on import and export.

Leader Mahat, also the former Energy Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, said that PM should assure China that there is political stability in Nepal in the aftermath of the constitution promulgation to reap much benefits from China.

Similarly, saying that balanced relations with neighbouring countries will help protect national interest, UCPN (Maoist) secretary Barsha Man Pun said that PM should keep in mind the national interests in striking agreement with China during his visit. He viewed that PM’s visit would be fruitful if efforts were made to attract Chinese investment for economic development of Nepal, get financial aid for post-quake reconstructions and receive goodwill from neighbours.
